Anxiety. Depression. ADHD. For many of us here, our mental health is struggling, and we use these terms to explain our symptoms and – sometimes – get treated with a therapist or other mental health professional.

But there’s a problem – while diagnoses are very helpful in describing symptoms or guiding some types of treatment, they do not answer one important question: are you where you want to be?

What Therapy is For

Psychotherapy is extensively researched, given medical trials similar to the way someone might treat other types of disease, and has been shown to be an effective way to address many mental health challenges.

Yet, despite these successes, therapy is not just about disorders. They’re not just about diagnoses. Therapy is about figuring out where you are – emotionally, psychologically, in your relationships, and more – and trying to help you figure out where you can be.

It’s about using psychotherapeutic tools to help you with things like motivation, conflict resolution, relationship building, and stress management. It’s about trying to talk through roadblocks, figure out answers to difficult questions, and so much more.

While many clients will first reach out to a psychotherapist because they have anxiety, depression, and similar conditions, most clients will continue therapy even after their symptoms decrease, because they know that they still haven’t reach their goals.

That is why those that simply feel stuck, unhappy, or are otherwise struggling – even if they do not currently have diagnosable mental health disorders – should consider reaching out to a therapist. Therapists can help with common life events such as:

  • Building confidence around seeking a new career or asking for a raise.
  • Learning how to put more of yourself into a relationship or overcome a past trauma.
  • Gain insight into some of your past life challenges so you understand yourself more.

Therapists can help you with challenges around aging, or parenting, or just learning to love yourself. They can teach motivation, coping tools for stress, and even how to explore intimacy better.

Therapists are arguably the best tool we have to address mental health disorders, but they are not just for those with disorders. They are also for those that are simply ready to improve their lives in any capacity. Bring your life where you want it to be. Reach out to me today to learn more.
